Työn tarkoituksena on mallien, ja erityisesti Wiener-MLP mallin, identifiointi teollisille bioprosesseille. Datapohjaisten mallien joustavuus tekee niistä sopivia mallirakenteita monimutkaisten ja huonosti tunnettujen prosessien, kuten bioprosessien, mallinnukseen. On kuitenkin huomattava, että ylisovituksen välttämiseksi tarvitaan hyvinkin suuria määriä opetusdataa. Tässä työssä tutkittiin useita keinoja tarvittavan opetusdatan määrän rajoittamiseen, kuten keinoja prosessitiedon lisäämiseksi malleihin ja malliulostulojen keskiarvoistamista.
