VTI has, by commission of WSP, compared the quality-of-service of an alternative rural road design to the performance of the existing road on a section of the national route E18. This studied part of E18 is located between Karlskoga and Lekhyttan. The alternative design has separated oncoming lanes and a lane design that follows that of the existing road with an addition of two 1,5 km long overtaking sections. The total length of the road is 15 km and no substantial traffic flows enter or exit the road along the studied stretch.
