Is the companies profitability and financial position a determining factor for the companies growth?

Even if the main purpose is to decide if the companies profitability and financial position is a determining factor for its growth, the purpose is to determine if there are any differences between big and small companies in there economical positions then they grow, in the selected industry. This thesis is mainly a quantitative study. The selected industry for the study is extraction of turf. The financial measurement that most clearly differ the growing companies from the not growing companies or the companies that didn’t change there amount of employees was the returns of the companies own capital. It was also the returns of the companies own capital there the main difference existed between the big and the small companies. The profit margin and the solvency didn’t differ a lot in the studied companies.Även om det primära syftet är att utreda frågeställningen kring om företagets lönsamhet och finansiella ställning är avgörande för beslut beträffande företagets expansion, ska undersökningen också utröna om det finns några skillnader mellan de stora och de små företagens ekonomiska förhållanden vid expansionstillfället i den valda branschen. Denna uppsats är i första hand en kvantitativ undersökning. Branschen som undersökningen har förlagts till är utvinning av torv. Det finansiella mått som tydligast skilde de expanderande företagen från företag som inte expanderade eller minskade antalet anställda var avkastning på eget kapital. Det var också avkastning på eget kapital som utgjorde den största skillnaden mellan de stora och de små företagen vid expansionen. Vinstmarginalen och soliditeten var inte påtagligt avvikande bland de undersökta företagen
