The purpose of this study was to trace the theme of death as it recurs in Hemingway's life and works in an effort to determine his attitude toward death, how this attitude was formulated, how it influenced his novels and short stories, and what bearing this attitude may have had on the nature of his own sudden death, so like the violent deaths he repeatedly described in his stories
