Identification of the characteristics of the good teacher from the perspective of students from different areas of knowledge

Education is an essential part of everyone's life and the teaching-learning relationship between a teacher and his students is an important vector by which it can be transmitted, and when the goals and thoughts of both are aligned, the relationship becomes makes it more efficient. Given the above, the objective of this research is to define which characteristics the undergraduate students from different areas of knowledge consider relevant to define the good professor. For this purpose, a questionnaire was used that presented 59 characteristics divided into the Human Dimension, Technical Dimension and Ideological Dimension (or Politics), which were judged by the level of relevance by 198 undergraduate students from courses in different areas at the Federal University of Uberlândia. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Chi-square test. In general, it was noted that the characteristics belonging to the Technical Dimension were considered slightly more relevant. Some of the characteristics pointed out as the most important were: “recognizing and accepting mistakes”, “being accessible to dialogues”, “having mastery of the content”, “being analytical, critical and reflective”, “being interested” and “having involvement and commitment teaching”. As for the association of the responses with the characteristics of the respondents, it was not possible to find significant differences between them. This implies that the opinion of students in general is convergent and does not depend on gender, period of graduation, area of the course or whether they work or not.Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação)A educação é parte essencial na vida de todas as pessoas e a relação de ensino-aprendizagem entre um professor e seus alunos é um vetor importante pelo qual ela pode ser transmitida, sendo que quando os objetivos e pensamentos de ambos estão alinhados, a relação se torna mais eficiente. Diante do exposto, o objetivo dessa pesquisa é definir quais características os graduandos de diferentes áreas do conhecimento consideram relevantes para definir o bom professor. Para isso foi utilizado um questionário que apresentava 59 características divididas nas áreas de Dimensão Humana, Dimensão Técnica e Dimensão Ideológica (ou Política), as quais foram julgadas pelo nível de relevância por 198 alunos graduandos de cursos de distintas áreas da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia. Os dados foram analisados utilizando estatística descritiva e o Teste Qui-quadrado. De modo geral, notou-se que as características pertencentes à Dimensão Técnica foram consideradas ligeiramente mais relevantes. Algumas das características apontadas como mais importantes foram: “reconhecer e aceitar erros”, “ser acessível para diálogos”, “ter domínio do conteúdo”, “ter capacidade analítica, crítica e reflexiva”, “ser interessado” e “ter envolvimento e comprometimento com o fazer docente”. Quanto à associação das respostas com as características dos respondentes, não foi possível encontrar significativas diferenças entre elas. Isso implica que a opinião dos alunos de forma geral é convergente e independe do sexo, período da graduação, área do curso ou se trabalha ou não
