The attitude of social workers employed in child care homes towards knowledge as a constituent part of their competence

The knowledge of social work is one of the three basic constituent parts of the competence. Knowledge for a social worker constitutes a significant basis for a competent accomplishment of their duties. The article analyses the level of professional knowledge of social workers, working in child care homes, in terms of their age and residence. It emphasizes that management bodies of such institutions should encourage social workers to participate in various kinds of trainings, seminars and conferences related to theories and methods of social work and models of social welfare, since a greater part of respondents have not acquired sufficient professional knowledge, which can lead to inappropriate solution of a problem
