B cell lymphomas and leukemias are heterogeneous tumors with different cellular origins. Analysis of immunoglobulin (Ig) genes enables insight into the B cell progenitor, as Ig somatic hypermutation correlates with antigen-related B cell transit through the germinal center (GC).
