LITERATURE REVIEW ON THE MOST EFFECTIVE TREATMENTS IN CHILDREN WITH ADHD FOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, SOCIAL SKILLS AND SELF-ESTEEM

Curs: 2019/2020El trastorno por Déficit de Atención e Hiperactividad (TDAH) es una de las patologías más frecuentes en la infancia, caracterizada por la presencia de un patrón persistente de inatención y/o hiperactividad-impulsividad, lo cual ocasiona déficits en diferentes contextos de su vida: en el ámbito escolar con dificultades en el aprendizaje y en las relaciones sociales con sus iguales, así como con los adultos, lo que conlleva, con frecuencia a una baja autoestima por la frustración de no hacer las cosas bien. Por todo ello suele ser uno de los principales motivos de consulta en la infancia. Presenta una alta comorbilidad con problemas de conducta, lo que agrava aún más el comportamiento disruptivo. El tipo de intervención de las personas que lo padecen suele ser una combinación de tratamiento cognitivo-conductual y tratamiento farmacológico, siendo este último menos favorable en un considerable número de casos debido a la carencia de respuesta y la falta de adherencia al tratamiento, aparición de posibles efectos adversos y el alto coste económico que constituye. Este trabajo va a permitir una contribución actualizada a los resultados de las investigaciones realizadas en los últimos 5 años. De forma más específica, las estrategias descritas en este estudio promueven el desarrollo y mejora de las habilidades sociales, de un aumento de la autoestima y en mayor medida, del rendimiento académico. Se trata de programas de intervención que se aplican de forma multidisciplinar para desarrollar las carencias anteriormente citadas, otorgando un papel fundamental no solo al especialista que va a llevar a cabo el tratamiento, sino también a padres y docentes, así como sus iguales, haciéndoles partícipes activamente del proceso de evolución del niño/a y centrándose, sobre todo, en una actitud de respeto hacia los demás, el uso de reforzadores positivos y el repaso de las materias mediante juegos lúdicos.Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most frequent pathologies in childhood, characterized by the presence of a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity, which causes deficits in different contexts of their lives: in the school environment with difficulties in learning and in social relations with their peers, as well as with adults, which often leads to low self-esteem due to the frustration of not doing things right. For all these reasons, it is often one of the main reasons for consultation in childhood. It presents a high comorbidity with behavioural problems, which further aggravates disruptive behavior. The type of intervention for sufferers is usually a combination of cognitive-behavioural treatment and pharmacological treatment, the latter being less favourable in a considerable number of cases due to lack of response and lack of adherence to treatment, the appearance of possible adverse effects and the high economic cost involved. This work will allow an updated contribution to the results of the research carried out in the last 5 years. More specifically, the strategies described in this study promote the development and improvement of social skills, an increase in self-esteem and, to a greater extent, academic performance. These are intervention programmes that are applied in a multidisciplinary way to develop the aforementioned deficiencies, giving a fundamental role not only to the specialist who will carry out the treatment, but also to parents and teachers, as well as their peers, making them actively participate in the child's evolution process and focusing, above all, on an attitude of respect towards others, the use of positive reinforcement and the revision of subjects through playful games
