Haiti in search of a future. The Republic of Haiti is only a lightweight on the international economy scene : its primary source of currency, are coffee exports, and these represent only 1,2 % of the world market. Her neighbours also have a tendency to stand apart, especially the Dominican Republic and the United States. On top of this restriction, the Haitians also suffer-another form of isolation : the “moun andeyo” or “people from outside”, these are the inhabitants of the country areas, who although they form the majority, numerically speaking, are looked down on as second-class citizens. Development policies for the rural areas have been geared more towards attracting international aid than to mobilizing the potential of the peasantry....
