In the continuity of a preliminary demonstration of the antifungal effect of a bouquet of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by the roots of barley subjected to fungal attack, VOCability project aimed to assess the effect of these COVs on pathogenic fungi in the rhizosphere. The first part of this project concerned the selection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) having an inhibitory effect on the mycelial growth of two common barley pathogens: Fusarium culmorum and Cochliobolus sativus. These two pathogens are responsible of cereal root rot.
