In post war Sri Lanka there is still a big social and cultural gap between the different population groups. English has recently been suggested as the new official common language for Singalese, Tamils, Muslims and other Sri Lankan citizens. But in rural areas today the question is more about how to provide content for training in the different mother-tongues. This article is based on observations and interviews with the owner, manager, operators and visitors at the Haldemmulla telecentre during two visits in 2008 and 2011.
