The paper reports on the applicability of the Lattice Boltzmann based free surface flow solver elbe to the simulation of complex, fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems in marine engineering. General purpose graphics processing units (GPGPUs) are used to accelerate the numerical calculations. The basic methodology and the initial validation of the solver for three FSI test cases are given in this paper. A more detailed validation and the application of the solver to the numerical simulation of the ditching of a free fall boat will be presented at the Marine 2013 Conference
