This chapter provides a general account of the legislation that governs the use of community treatment orders (CTOs) in the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand – countries that share the common law tradition due to their having been part of the British Empire. The author reviews the major themes in the CTO statutes of these jurisdictions, draws attention to certain contrasting approaches, and highlights interesting provisions of certain regimes
