University of Otago Christchurch Medical Library User Survey: Report

An extensive data store of graphs and themed survey comments (qualitative data) has been created, and this may be made available on request.In August, 2012, University Librarian, Howard Amos and the Dean of the Christchurch School of Medicine, Professor Peter Joyce met to discuss the future of University of Otago (UO) Library services in Christchurch after the devastating earthquake of February 2011. As a result of this meeting it was recommended that a pre and post earthquake ‘user perspective’ of the value of library services, spaces and support would be invaluable; this user-centred approach would provide a strong foundation for the re-build of a new facility in the city. Two UO Portfolio Librarians were assigned to develop and implement a survey which would aim to better understand what Library users valued most about a Library – reflecting both on the past (what Library users had had) and to the future (what services and facilities would be most valued)
