Sailors short of money for beer & whiskey decide to pretend one is dead (the black cook) & sell his body to a doctor for 50 guineas [sic]. When the doctor goes to dissect him the cook hollers that he will eat him alive. Dr. runs off in terror thinking it is the devil. Last verse a warning to others Drs. to beware [sic] of dead sailors.Peacock, Vol III, 856-857; Mercer: Peacock, 856; Ives, "Northeast Folklore", 7, 1965, 84-87; Fowke, "Ontario", 26-27
