Recitation. A vagabond enters a bar asking for drinks. In return, he offers to tell his story: he was once a respected artist who met and fell in love with a beautiful woman, Madeleine. After a few months of love she left him for his friend. The artist turned to drink. Now he draws her lovely face in chalk on the floor - and dies.see Burke and Oliver, "The Peoples' Songster" 1900: 14. Composed by H. Antoine D'Arcy (1877)
