Abstract The newly immigrated often experience acculturative stress when adapting to another social environment. Human service practitioners are in a unique position to aid the foreign born in reducing this stress through transition assistance. This article provides an overview of the newly immigrated population, information on the impact of acculturative stress, a summary of their transition needs, and recommendations on how to assist the newly immigrated through the transition process
