Abstract We propose in this paper the uncertainty estimation of modal parameters using stochastic subspace identification algorithms. The result is a consequence of writing the subspace identification algorithms as M-estimators for which asymptotic results exist. The method is applied to a simulation example and it is shown that the estimated uncertainties align well with their empirical counterparts
