11-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (11HSD) catalyzes the conversion of the glucocorticoids, corticosterone and cortisol, to the respective derivatives 11-dehydrocorticosterone and cortisone. The recent findings underline the importance of this enzyme in excluding glucocorticoids from mineralocorticoid receptors.
