Abstract The purpose of this study was to identify perceived barriers young adults experience in diabetes self-management and possible strategies to overcome these barriers. Twenty two young adults, 18-28 years-old, with type 1 or type 2 diabetes attended three focus groups held in two north western states. Participants were asked to discuss barriers and strategies to help them manage their diabetes. The transcripts were coded and analyzed for themes.
