Résumé : Les Abstract: The internal stresses that are generated during casting of aluminium billets originate from the difference in the thermomechanical path from the core to the billet surface and pose serious safety problems during further processing steps such as sawing the ingots. A thermomechanical model of continuous casting has been validated against residual stresses measured using neutron diffraction. The radial, hoop and axial stress components have been measured along the radius in a billet 320 mm in diameter
