Recherche de la validité prédictive d’une évaluation conjointe du langage et des habiletés sensori-motrices d’une population d’enfants de 3-4 ans

When evaluating speech and language of three year old children, it can be challenging to find a prognosis and decide on a therapeutic project for those with mild difficulties. As we know that language primarily develops by the neuronal connections activated by sensorimotor skills, this historico- prospective study intends to explore if a combined evaluation of language and sensorimotor skills could bring forward predictive factors regarding language development within the following six months to one year. Our cohort study consisted of forty-eight children aged 3 years and 4 months old on average at the start of the evaluation. Data analysis showed some significant statistical correlations between visuo-attentional skills measured at baseline and language results both at baseline and follow up. When splitting our cohort into two subgroups by ability level, some links appear between follow up language scores and other sensorimotor skills, particularly in fine motor skills, in somatosensory discrimination and in cross-modal perceptions. Therefore, the combined evaluation of language and sensorimotor skills can benefit the decision regarding an appropriate short term therapeutic project.A la suite d’une évaluation de langage d’enfants de 3 ans, la question du pronostic et du projet de prise en charge thérapeutique se pose pour les enfants avec des fragilités langagières. Sachant que le langage se développe sur la base d’habiletés sensori-motrices, notre étude historico-prospective a cherché à démontrer si une évaluation concomitante du langage et de ces habiletés permettait d’apporter des facteurs prédictifs du niveau de langage à un horizon d’environ 6 mois à un an. L' analyse de ces évaluations, réalisées sur une population de 48 enfants d’âge moyen de 3;04 ans au temps 1 de l’évaluation, a permis de mettre en évidence des corrélations significatives entre les compétences visuo-attentionnelles du temps 1 et les compétences langagières à la fois au temps 1 et au temps 2 de nos évaluations. De plus, le sous-groupe de sujets présentant une contrainte en motricité fine (graphisme), en discrimination tactile ou en transfert de modalités sensorielles tend à obtenir des scores moyens inférieurs en langage au temps 2. Cette évaluation conjointe apporte donc bien des éléments contributifs pour l'établissement du projet de soins à court terme
