In November of 1947, after 29 years as Prime Minister of Canada, William Lyon Mackenzie King called a convention for the August 5-7, 1948. King announced his resignation as Liberal leader there, and after three days of speeches, campaigning, and meetings, the election saw Louis St. Laurent installed as the next leader of the party and Prime Minister.
