Lif dolgu ile bağlayıcı matris arasındaki ara yüzey bağı, kompozit malzemelerin mekanik performansının anahtarıdır. Lif/matris ara yüzey dayanımının arttırılması yoluyla kompozit mekanik özelliklerinin iyileştirilmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Bu nedenle, genellikle lif yüzey işlemleri ya da matris modifikasyonu yoluyla polimerik kompozitlerde lif/matris uyumu attırılır. Bu çalışmada karbon lifler, atmosferik oksijen plazma ortamında sürekli olarak ve değişen sürelerde yüzey işlemine tabi tutulmuştur. Plazma işlemi sonrasında lif çaplarının değişmediği görülmüştür.
