Reviews 18 studies in which the Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test (MAST) was administered to samples of at least 40 Ss under standardized conditions. It is concluded that the MAST is useful in a variety of areas concerned with the assessment of alcohol use. It can be used clinically with individual patients, both for diagnosis and as a means of providing a short but comprehensive profile of the medical, psychological, and social functions that are interfered with by the use of alcohol
