This research continues recent work to investigate ways of analysing and providing for improved passing opportunities on state highways in New Zealand. It was carried out during 2000-2001 and involved field surveys, literature review, TRARR modelling and subsequent desktop analysis. The effectiveness of no-overtaking delineation using a modified (horizontal curve) warrant criterion was assessed. Changes to Transfund New Zealand simplified procedures for passing-lane analysis were suggested to improve the robustness of the model.
