Protease inhibitors (non-cleavable substrate analogs) have been potent tools in combating HIV infection as well as its result - AIDS. However, the emergence of drug-resistant viruses in patients treated with these inhibitors is an ongoing concern. Thus there is a growing need to find additional therapeutic targets and treatments to supplement the currently available protease inhibitors.
