EXPLORING THE SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ENGLISH AND VIETNAMESE CULTURES THROUGH SOME OF THE TWO NATIONS’ TYPICAL FAIRY TALES

The benefits of bringing culture into language teaching have been appreciated and taken into practice for a long time in all parts of the world. Recently, the teaching of culture has also been introduced into Vietnamese foreign language classrooms. However, this practice remains small-scaled. To improve this situation, we have carried out research in a new and rather unexplored part of Vietnamese – British cross culture: fairy tales. After twelve months' time, the research group has discovered the similarities and differences between English and Vietnamese cultures through analyzing typical fairy tales of the two nations. From the understanding of both cultures through fairy tales, we hope to bridge the distance between the two nations, and bring English closer to its learners by arousing greater interest and enthusiasm among them
