REMOTE SENSING AND GIS APPLICATIONS TO BUILD LANDCOVER MAP OF CHAN MAY – LANG CO AREA, PHU LOC DISTRICT, THUA THIEN HUE PROVINCE

Nowadays, Remote sensing and GIS technology are being used to track and assess the changes of landcover, to manage natural resources and to monitor the environment. The data from remote sensing image helps us interpret, analyze and assess the spatial and temporal changes of landcover. Chan May – Lang Co economic area is located in southwestern of Thua Thien Hue province, including Lang Co town, Loc Thuy, Loc Tien and Loc Vinh commune of Phu Loc district, encompassing a total area of 30,683.13. Currently, Chan May – Lang Co has been invested to become one of the important and modern industrial trade centers of the Central key economic zone and a tourist, resort center of regional and international importance. The economic development has brought about positive results; however, the adverse side of this development is the impact on natural resources and the environment as well as changes of landcover. This article introduces the mapping result of land cover in Chan May area, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province using Remote sensing and GIS technology.
