Our assessed valuation was only some $2 billion then, against $17 billion plus now, and the District's population was two million against its nine and a half million now. In 1956, we went back to the voters again, this time seeking authority to issue short-term bonds. Pledged to pay them off were the monies derived from the fees imposed on areas annexing to the District. Issuance of these bonds was authorized by the voters by a margin of more than 11 to 1. To date, we have sold a total of $77.4 million of these bonds. These funds have been used to expand the Colorado River Aqueduct system. As my final topic today, I want to give you some idea of how we believe Southern Californians will be kept supplied with water after the period of sufficiency of the supply from the State Water Project has ended. We estimate this will be about 1990 and we also estimate that our population then will be around 17 million-or approaching twice what it is today.
