Since the initiation of pumping at Wellton-Mohawk, the drainage system in the Mexicali Valley has not been able to carry off all of the heavy salt concentrations in the water. Inasmuch as the District is snnually pumping 45,000 acre-feet more than is neceseary to maintain hydraulic balance, a reduction by this amount would not impair the District. Technical investigations show that the water table has been reducted to 6 feet or more through-out the District. A Bureau of Reclamation proposal for a reduc-tion of 20,000 acre feet is inadequate.
