Spencer built here about 1911 to transport coal from mines on upper Warm Creek to gold dredges at Lees Ferry, coal storage point; flat areas on both sides of mouth of Warm Creek; slight evidence of coal mining operation, iron anchor post for boat near natural window at mouth of creek. 15. Warm Creek canyon, lower course; Dominguez-Escalante party crossed Warm Creek near its mouth in 1776 enroute to Crossing of the Fathers; crude trail in sand and rock descends from rim of Warm Creek Canyon in NW 1/4 sec. 1 T44S R4E, exit trail NW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec. 6 T44S R5E SLBM. 16. Sentinel Rock; mouth at mile 16.7 River Map Sheet B at river's edge upstream side (incorrectly shown on Leche-e Rock quad USGS 1954); noted by and named on second Powell expedition 1871; from this rock derives the name of Sentinel Rock Creek, now called Wahweap Creek; some placer mining on Colorado upstream from mouth of creek; on the creek side of the rock is a register of river runners, notably reflecting the trips made by Bert Loper; solitary lofty tower of rock about 300 feet high. 17. Mesken Bar (Other spellings; Mescan, Miskin, Mexican, Meskin); mile 44.5 - 45.5 River Map Sheet D, sec. 34 T43S R6E SLBM, Cummings Mesa quad USGS 1953; placer mining site discovered and worked during the 1880's, named after gold prospector and trapper Edward Mesken; extensive bar with evidence of mining operations at low level. 18.
