Summary A summary of present water uses and future water needs for Federal and state fish and wildlife installations in the Pacific Southwest Water Plan service area appears in Table 1. This summary does not include all fish and wildlife installations, but is limited to those related to the Pacific Southwest Water Plan, within the Southwest Region. The over-all estimate of 407,584 acre-feet is an estimate of the total amount of water needed for consumptive use by the various fish and wildlife installations. The 627 second-feet is a nonconsumptive requirement. Of the total indicated consumptive use requirement of 407,584 acre-feet, 46,075 acre-feet specified as present consumptive use represents uses under varying water right conditions. In addition, the Supreme Court Decision of June 3, 1963, Arizona v. California, et al., allowed a maximum of 60,339 acre-feet annually for consumptive use for Havasu Lake and Imperial National Wildlife Refuges. The 46,075 acre-feet added to the 60,339 acre-feet specified in the Supreme Court Decision totals 106,414 acre-feet. This figure subtracted from the 407,584 acre-feet shown in the table leaves 301,170 acre-feet as a new net requirement of consumptive use for needed fish and wildlife installations in connection with the Pacific Southwest Water Plan. The present and future annual use of water by fish and wildlife facilities, broken down by States and sub-regions, is given in Table 1a.
