In the design of the multi-storey building, the whole building should effectively resist lateral loads such as earthquakes and wind loads acting on them. The main reason for the horizontal movement and the development of high stresses in buildings is these lateral loads. Therefore, buildings should have more strength and stiffness to resist lateral loads acting on them. To have both these, one of the most efficient structural systems is the shear wall structures.
