Studies of heavy metals in soil in the Republic of Macedonia show that there are arround 1000 ha in the region along the Zletovska river contaminated with heavy metals with a significant impact of cadmium (Boev B. and Sonja Lepitkova, 2004). Studies made in China (Zhou Qixing & Song Yufang, 2004) also showed that in its southern part there are about 230 000 ha contaminated with cadmium. These regions could be a great potential for production of agricultural crops, but because of their pollution the potential is unused.
