Features of musical traditions in Macedonia through the centuries

In this paper we have tried to highlight some of the characteristic features of the musical traditions that existed, cherished and endured through the centuries in Macedonia. An especially significant, for the three types of musical traditions (folklore, church and professional) is the period after the Second World War. For the first time in the history of the Macedonian people, in this period, traditional music was called Macedonian. During this period, the Ohrid Archbishopric was restored as the Macedonian Orthodox Church. Thus extended ancient church music tradition. According to the accepted Western-European model in this period begins development of a professional Macedonian music culture
