The lignin content in the seed coat may have a direct effect on permeability and on electrolyte conductivity of soybean genotypes. The research was designed to study variation of seed coat lignin content among soybean genotypes and its relationship to permeability and to seed electrolyte conductivity. Seeds of eleven soybean genotypes were hand harvested at R8 maturation stage in research plots at Agriculture Faculty, Bengkulu University on February 2001. Seed coat lignin content was determined using the potassium permanganat method.
