Farmer Management of Groundwater Irrigation in Asia: Sustainability of Water Users Associations as Groundwater Irrigation Managers: A Case Study under On-Farm Water Management, Punjab, Pakistan

THE PAPER DISCUSSES the water users associations; their organization and operation after the reconstruction/remodeling of small-scale community irrigation schemes (watercourses), with special reference to their sustainability as groundwater irrigation managers. Watercourses carry­ing canal and groundwater (tubewell water) renovated under three different categories, i.e., managed by water users associations, a government organization and a tubewell owned by a single farmer have been discussed and compared
