A regeneration method of black pepper (Piper nigrum L.) has been developed using cotyledon explants. MS basal medium supplemented with 1.5 mg/I IAA + 0.5 mg/I BA induced the explants to produce green and compact nodular callus. When these calli were transferred to MS medium containing a higher level of - BA (1.5 - 3.0 mg/I) with a lower level of IAA or NAA (0.5 .mg/1) produced adventitious shoots. Maximum response was achieved on MS medium containing 2.5 mg/I BA and 0.5 mg/I IAA. Regenerated shoots were excised and the best root formation (90%) were achieved in medium with 1.5 mg/I IBA. Rooted plantlets were successfully transferred into the soil
