The present study was executed to assess the current status of the higher education sector in Benin. Documentary review method was used to collect data and were complemented by surveys. Data obtained were synthesized in form of graphs and tables. Results showed that political decision sustains education systems of Benin. Benin has seven public universities and the University of Abomey-Calavi remains the most populous university with high annual students’ recruitment. Some innovations have been proposed to improve the higher education system in Benin which remain insignificant compared to the current challenge that the system is facing.
