BIODIGESTORES PARA A MITIGAÇÃO DAS EMISSÕES DE GASES DE EFEITO ESTUFA PELA BOVINOCULTURA NA REGIÃO SUDESTE, BRASIL

Recent works have been seeking to relate the greenhouse effect gases (GHGs) issues with agricultural and livestock production. This study attempted to answer how the adoption of biodigesters in cattle raising contributes to the mitigation of GHGs and what will be the economic impact of this adoption. Thus, our work aimed to quantify the emissions of the main GHGs related to cattle raising (CH4 and N2 O) in Southeastern Brazil and to verify the GHG mitigation potential through the adoption of biodigesters. Our results showed that the use of biodigester as animal waste treatment strategy is likely to reduce the GHGs emission in the atmosphere. The overall reduction of GHG emissions is 15,347,045.33 tCO2 eq/year, which amounts to approximately 40% reduction compared to the estimated total emission considering the enteric fermentation.
