Protein is of vital importance for the nutrition of animals and humans. A growing world population is dependent on the efficient supply of proteins. It is also dependent on sustainable production of proteins since environmental impacts associated with animal-based protein provision are widely perceived as surpassing ecological boundaries in the long run. Connecting this perception with consumer demand for regional products the study computes regional animal demand and feed crop supply of crude protein in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
