Transmission of World Food Price Changes to African Markets and its Effect on Household Welfare

The goal of this report is to examine the impact of the global food crisis on sub-Saharan African countries. In particularly, we focus on two questions: To what degree have changes in the international prices of staple foods been transmitted to domestic markets in sub-Saharan Africa? What is the impact of the changes in domestic prices on different types of households in the region
