Background: The use of willingness-to-pay (WTP) to value the benefits of health (care) in monetary terms is increasing. The objective of this study was to estimate private and altruistic willingness to pay for improvement of hypothetical health status in patients visiting the emergency department. Methods: A cross-sectional study was used from June to July 2018. We surveyed 300 patients visiting a hospital emergency department in Tehran, Iran. Data were collected via open-ended questionnaire in a face to face interview.
