HOLT A.P.O. #464 % Post Master FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS New York Ny Sept 24, 1943 RFD # 5 My Dearest Sweetheart Well dear girl here I am another year older to-day and no best girl to celebr- ate it with. And to top it all off I havent gotten any mail for five or six days but I know that they are onthe way somewhere and I will get several of them at once, but it sure makes it roughing waiting for them. I only hope that it dosent take as long for my letters to reach you, because I know that it is A lot more worry for you not to hear than it is me. So I will try and keep my letters comming at least every other day and that way you should hear pretty regular. Bill Duskin got a letter from his wife today and she had gotten his cablegram so I guess you have gotten mine. Honey I dont believe that I asked you to send me any a bottle of either Jergens lotion or Hinds one or the other. I bought a large bottle before I left the states but I broke it so I am just about out In face I will be out before you can get it to me but it will be good when it comes. And while I think about it for anything under one pound you dont have to have a request from me for it, so you wont have any trouble sending it. And another thing Honey I wont be able to get you anything over here for Christmas so you will just have to get your own. The Red Cross has a gift selection for men that are over seas but from what I saw of the selections they arent what I would want to get for you. And another thing any time that you want to send a cable gram to me you can get the address from the one that I sent you. It might be that it would cost you too much but for us we get a raise on ours. It cost us only sixty c ents to send one like I sent you. So that isnt half bad. Also honey be sure and let me know when youget the money I sent the last payday. I will send some more this time. We are still in North Africa the same place we have always been sinc we got over here. I unders tand from one of the in the other Btrys that ther is some rumors already flying around back hom about us doing a lot of stuff that isnt so. So Sweetheart just do as I have always told you to. Dont believe anything that you hear untill you xxx know that it is so o or I tell you about it. Tomorrow is another inspection day so I guess I will have to get all fixed up and let the General look me over. How are the twins also the rest of the youngsters, I sure would like to see you all. The twins will soon be five month old, it dosent seem possiable dose it. Honey did I tell you that Milford Hombree had made a staff sgt and is now in the Medical Detachment of the 967th. His tent is right in back of mine so we see quite a bit of one another. He is so diff rent than he was for a long time. We make coffee over an open fire almost every night and talk over old times, also about what we are going to do when we get back home. Has Cherry his wife ever been to see you. She told me the last time I saw her at Brownwood that she was going to be sure and come when she came home. Maj Douglas still asks abou you and the kids. He says Mrs Douglas is getting along fine. He hasent heard but two or three tims from her since we gothere . Well Sweetheart it is almosttime for retreat and I guess you are just about getting ready to eat dinner or at least getting it rea dy for the kids that come from school there. It seems funny that there is so much difference in the time dosent it. Give all the folks my love and tell Florence and Homer that I havent forgotten them and will write one of thes days.
