He established a private practice in Hope, Arkansas from 1912 to 1939. From 1931 to 1933, he was a member of the Arkansas State Highway Audit Commission. He became a Federal Judge in May 1939, he was Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas beginning May 1939, and was Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Arkansas from 1948-1958.
