Investigating susceptibility Urinary Escherichia coli isolates to Levofloxacin and Ciprofloxacin in confined patients of Vasei Hospital in Sabzevar during six months from December 2017 to June 2018

Introduction: Urinary tract infections are one of the major causes of referral to clinics and hospitals, and rapid treatment is very important for complications. Since E. coli is the most common bacterial agent that causes urinary tract infections and antibiotic resistance can vary depending on the geographical situation, This study aimed to investigate the susceptibility pattern of Escherichia coli isolated from the urinary tract to the ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin antibiotics and to investigate the risk factors of resistance to these fluoroquinolones in patients admitted to Vasei Hospital in Sabzevar. Material and Method: This descriptive-analytic study was carried out at the Vasei Hospital of Sabzevar in the period of 6 months, from 1392 to 1397. In this study, all registered urinary culture and antibiograms were studied in 139 hospitalized patients. And the determination of susceptibility test for isolates of Escherichia coli against levofloxacin and ciprofloxacin antibiotics was done by Kirby Bayer method and Data was analyzed using SPSS 22 software. Results: This study was performed on 139 positive urine specimens that showed resistance to antibiotic levofloxacin 50% and antibiotic resistance to ciprofloxacin 60.7%. 73.8% of them belonged to female patients and 26.2% of them were male patients. 71.4% of the patients had a history of hospitalization in the last 6 months and 57.1% of the patients had a history of antibiotic use in the last 6 months and 56% of the patients had a history of urinary tract infection and 23.8% of the patients had a history of Of urinary stone and 64.3% of patients had urinary tract history and 11.9% of patients had history of urological surgery and 59.5% of patients had history of non-urological surgery. Conclusins: Considering the results of this study, resistance to ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin is higher than 50%. Due to the emergence of resistance to these antibiotics, it is advisable to use antibiotics appropriate for the treatment of urinary tract infections, based on the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of antibiotic pathogens
