The effect of acupressure in neiguan point on anxiety and pain in inguinal hernia surgery Abstract: Background: Anxiety and pain are the major problems that are very common in surgery and postpone the wound healing, increased risk of infection and staying of patients in hospital. Today, Low-cost and non-invasive, non-pharmacological approaches, have been taken to control anxiety and pain , this study conducted to investigate the effect of acupressure on anxiety and pain in patients undergoing inguinal hernia surgery Materials and Methods: This clinical trial included two groups and was single blinded. In This study, 88 patients who underwent inguinal hernia surgery that have inclusion criteria were examined. The subjects were randomly assigned to two groups of intervention and control with Using permutation block. During the study,In the intervention group, acupressure was applied using wristbands buttons tension in the neiguan point, and in the control group wristbands without buttons tension was placed loosely in same point and measurements were made in two steps (before and after surgery).anxiety were measured before and after intervention using the Spielberger questionnaire. After surgery, when the patient become alert, acupressure wristbands were placed every two hours for 5 minutes to 6 hours, and pain level was measured based on the assessment protocol of vital sign. For statistical analysis SPSS software, V20 and chi-square tests, Fisher's exact test, Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney test were used and significance level of less than 0/05was considered. Results: The results showed that in the experimental group the mean state and trait anxiety immediately after the intervention was significantly decreased. also In the control group decreased significantly between the mean state and trait anxiety before and after the Intervention, but the reduction of anxiety in the experimental group was significantly higher than the control group. the mean of pain was significantly lower than the control group. Although the amount of housing after surgery was lower in the intervention group but it was significant only in times of 45,90 and 180 minutes after the surgery.
