The relationship between birth weight and placenta weight of neonates born in shahid mobini hospital in sabzevar

Background and objectives: Structure and function of the placenta during fetal development effective But because of this relationship and the effect on fetal growth and infant health is unclear pair ,We decided to study in order to investigate the placenta weight correlation with new neonates’ weight in Sabzevar city in 2015-2016. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out in 230 pregnant women met inclusion criteria referred to vaginal delivery in the hospital located in Sabzevar. The first entry demographic, obstetric and medical history were recorded by the research assistant. After vaginal delivery, firstly, the biggest diameter of the placenta was measured and after cleaning the amnion and chorionic membranes was weighed using a digital weighbridge. Moreover, the baby weight was recorded immediately after delivery, the neonate Apgar score was measured in the minutes 1 and 5. If the baby was in meconium state, it would be registered in the questionnaire. Results: A total of 230 neonates were undergone the trial. In the current study, the mean and standard deviation of the placenta weight, birth weight, and placentas diameter were 507/96 ± 91/21, 3210/90 ± 416/84, and 19/45 ± 2/57, respectively. There was a correlation between placenta weight and birth weight. No correlation was demonstrated between placenta diameter and birth weight. Also, no correlation was indicated between placenta weight, birth weight, and placenta diameter with meconium fetus, Apgar score in the minute 1, gender, mother age and her accommodation location. There was a correlation between birth weight and mother body mass index. Furthermore, there was a reverse correlation between placenta weight ratio to birth weight and mother hemoglobin of new born. Conclusion: The current study showed that there is a correlation between placenta weight and birth weight. In general, the placenta weight ratio to birth weight could be considered as a simple warning and calculating sign for healthy risks in short term period for neonates.
