About E.M. Bailey: Born in the small town of Flovilla, Georgia in 1903, Eldren E.M. Bailey was educated to a third-grade level before leaving home to work on the railroad. Bailey claimed that while passing through Atlanta in his railroad days, he had seen a young girl in her yard beside the tracks and decided to jump off the train and introduce himself. She and Bailey would ultimately marry and spend the rest of their lives in that house next to the train tracks. In 1942, he started working as a gravedigger and made tombstones. In his free time, Bailey began the construction of an outdoor sculpture garden.
